OUR MISSION

MISSÃO

The sanctuary's mission is to ensure safe havens for animals and give them the opportunity to behave as closely as they would in their natural habitat. The region where we are, so far does not have any supportive areas for animals that are victims of anthropic actions, such as being run over on highways and the constant criminal fires in the region. Presently we already have acquired 55ha of forest and our project aims to buy more and more adjacent land to increase this preservation area for the wild species that inhabit this valley for posterity.
In addition to taking care of animals, another important mission is to bring environmental awareness to the population (see our project using art to address the criminal fires).

Our work aims to induce change in the way society relates to animals and nature, from controlling to collaborating, so that in future fewer animals depend on captivity and more forests are preserved and protected.

Mission

Our mission is to assist wild animal victims of harmful actions by man (victims of accidents, collisions with vehicles, trafficking, habitat destruction, among other incidents) by caring, loving and giving them the opportunity to return and fulfill their ecological role as native wild fauna of the savanna.

By protecting them, we are preserving the Cerrado biome, through actions that guarantee the survival of its native wildlife.

EQUIPE

We are a team of people - professionals and volunteers - who are passionate about nature and who have a partnership with the planet. We spare no efforts to conserve the native fauna of the Cerrado - which is our home.

We dream together to bring harmony among all beings to the world.

Marianne is the founder of this project and is manifesting her childhood dreams of living in the forest whilst protecting its inhabitants. She studied zoology in King’s College London where she was based and went onto a masters at Cambridge University studying wild jaguars in the Brazilian Pantanal wetlands. An environmental activist, permaculturist, graphic designer, producer of shiitake mushrooms, intuitive bio-architect, creative and seeker, she built Mariri Jungle Lodge & Eco Nois, the eco-cultural centre in the town of Alto Paraiso where she carries out environmental projects related to a more sustainable future for the region, including an awareness campaign about the devastating man-made forest fires that wipe out huge areas year after year.

Mari is carefully forming a group of like-minded professionals under an NGO, searching for funding for the sanctuary’s enclosures to be built on her land so as to re-home some pumas that are in need and regional birds that need treatment and reintroduction. Once the project has conquered its first stage, she will continue to find sponsors to buy more land for this jungle conservation adventure in this magical valley which she plans to turn into a private reserve.

Veterinarian graduated from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, works in the area of conservation medicine and integrative medicine for domestic and wild animals, combining practices that incorporate acupuncture and phytotherapy.

Born in the state of Pantanal, she grew up surrounded by nature and makes biodiversity conservation her life mission. She has worked in wildlife conservation projects in the Pantanal and Cerrado biomes, in road ecology research projects, monitoring run-over wildlife, and also in environmental education projects.

She is currently helping with the initial stages of our project and is our vet responsible for the Sanctuary.

Sandra M. Cavalcanti has a multidisciplinary background in agronomic engineering and animal husbandry with a specialization in conservation biology, a topic she has been working on for over 30 years. She holds a master's degree in wildlife management and a doctorate in ecology and conservation, both from Utah State University in the United States.

She coordinated different research projects, including one of the pioneering studies on the use of radio telemetry with GPS technology in Brazil. She was also responsible for the first population survey on jaguars in Brazil, developed in partnership with Marianne Soisalo, by the University of Cambridge, England, which resulted in publications that are highly recognized for discussing methods previously adopted as dogmas. S. Cavalcanti has a strong commitment to the conservation of biodiversity and big cats.

VOLUNTEERING

INSTITUTO

INSTITUTO ECO NOIS was created in 2012, it is a private, non-profit association whose mission is  to contribute to the harmonious evolution of planetary consciousness by finding skillful means to truly help other beings to be they human, animal or vegetable. One of its main purposes is to manage, coordinate, promote, organize, encourage and execute campaigns, projects, programs, publications, events, consultancies, courses and research that promote environmental education, preservation and conservation of the biological diversity of the Cerrado as well as the fauna as well as the flora and its human communities.

The inaugural action was "Chega de Fogo Na Chapada!": an innovative project that sought through art and music to encourage the community to learn about criminal fires  and sought individual and collective alternatives to alleviate the problem .

Watch our environmental education action that aimed to raise awareness about fires and their impact here in Chapada
